A great business logo design is the foundation of your brand’s identity. It is the symbol that signifies who your company is, what it stands for and what it does.
Good logo design can set you apart from the competition. It can create a long-term association for the customer that encourages repeat business.
What is logo design?
A logo is a symbol, emblem, graphic or word mark that is visually used to represent a business. Logo design is the art of producing this visual sign to aid and promote public identification and recognition.
What does a good logo do?
Logos are all around us. We see hundreds of them every day and some are more memorable than others. It seems a simple question, but what does a good logo do?
First and foremost a logo is the identity of your business. It is a visual representation of your brand. The face of your business in its most basic form. A unique mark that distinguishes your from the competition. Designing a good logo will separate your company in crowded industries.
Creates recognition and trust
Off the back of having an identity, a logo creates brand recognition. Logos are created from shapes, colours and text that are easy for us to remember. Logos can thus create strong visual associations with a business and build trust.
Conveys key information
Good logo design has strong visual associations, but also communicates key information about your business. The imagery, text and colours can convey what industry you are in, what you do, but could also appeal to a target demographic.
Communicates brand values
Brand values can also make a good logo stand out. Businesses that are environmentally friendly, organic, associated with luxury or quality can communicate this in their logo.
Brand identity, recognition and values can create a connection that can be the difference between a one-time purchase and creating a loyal customer. Repeat business and brand loyalty is a powerful combination in a competitive marketplace.
What’s in a good logo design?
An effectively designed logo should have five key factors:
Powerful logos are simple and therefore easier to remember.
The best logos leave a lasting impression.
Good logos are appropriate for the industry they relate to.
Your logo has to be used across a huge range of platforms so has to be versatile.
Trends come and go, but a good logo is timeless.
The colours, typography and images used in the design of the logo should therefore be focused on achieving these objectives.
Logo design process
Our logo design process goes through a step-by-step basis from start to finish.
1. Design brief
We get to know your business. What distinguishes it from its peers and what objectives need to be met from the design of the final logo?
What your company does and how it does it. Any core values that your business has. What different design styles can work for your logo?
3. Brainstorm and generate ideas
We organise the information and brainstorm ideas so that we can generate some initial design ideas.
4. Logo design sketches
We sketch out our design concepts by hand before committing the best to computer. We use Adobe Illustrator to then work up three initial designs for the client.
5. Client presentation
Once the designs are ready, we present them to the client for feedback.
6. Revisions and approval
The client knows their business and industry best, so we work together on any revisions.
7. Logo design sign off and delivery
Once the approved logo is ready we deliver it in all formats required. These include raster files such as jpeg, tiff and png and vector files such as the original Illustrator ai and eps versions.
